I moved into my current home three years ago, and it’s wild to see just how unorganized and cluttered my gaming space has become. I’m a relatively clean and tidy person, but when it comes to cords, cables, and accessories, it doesn’t take much for my gaming nook to turn into a total mess. I worked to make some minor changes these past few weeks, so I’m going to overview what has worked for me, and I hope you’ll hop in the comments to share your thoughts on building the perfect gaming space as well!
Desk Accessories Go a Long Way
When it comes to a gaming desk, you’re probably working with a finite amount of space, unless you have an L-shaped command center worthy of a sci-fi movie. For me, desk accessories were the best way to maximize the space I had while also capitalizing on minimalist design elements that go a long way. For starters, organization is key, and if you’re putting off a thorough reorganization of your cables and cords, I suggest starting there, as even without additional purchases, you’ll notice an immediate improvement.
In terms of additions, however, I went with a wood aesthetic on my white Costco standing desk. A monitor stand, headphone stand, and wood-styled desk pad really contrast nicely with the white and help me keep my things organized. I also opted for a drawer organizer to keep things I store away in my single drawer. Lastly, I wanted to add something with a bit of a quirky style, so I bought a clear glass mushroom to keep little candies in, depending on my mood and the time of year.
Brighten Up Your Space with Dynamic Lighting
Depending on where you play your games, you might be spending a lot of time in a room with poor lighting. Not only is it bad for your eyes to strain away your gaming hours with little light around you, but it also ends up looking sad and stale. I have limited natural lighting in my gaming den, which means that lamps will be my best way to brighten things up. Luckily for us, we’re not stuck in 2025 with simple white light options. Several brands offer lighting that perfectly suits a gaming space.
I ended up reorganizing my space and utilizing two items for customized lighting. On a side table, the Lepro TB1 Smart Table Lamp boasts a futuristic tech design that effectively fills the space. Diagonal from that table, I also placed the Lepro O1 Floor Lamp, paired both in the Lepro app as a room, and can customize the lighting depending on my mood via voice commands. With thousands of color combos and pulse, strobe, and movement actions available, I’m no longer gaming in a space that feels stale.
Sometimes What You Need is Right In Front of You (Or Under You)
Hear me out, but even though you’re spending all of your gaming time looking at a screen, what’s underneath you goes a long way. Especially if you have one of those plastic protectors under your gaming chair to prevent damage to your flooring, you’re likely in desperate need of something a bit more stylish. I opted for a simple solution, but when it comes to decorating, try to envision what you would like your gaming space to look like. Is it ergonomic comfort? Is it cute designs and decor? You have options.
Two things I’ve used in the past are small rugs that aren’t inherently game-related but fit that style, and foot risers. Firstly, the rug I went with is this futuristic gaming rug from IKEA. It’s reminiscent of a Tetris vibe, which is both fun and sleek in a black and white design. If you’re looking for comfort and support while sitting for long periods, IKEA also offers an under-desk footrest that doubles as a lap support for your arms. Please let us know in the comments if you have any plans to revitalize your gaming space.
