Monday, Shotgun Cop Man got a crossover DLC with another Devolver Digital title, and PalWorld got a Terraria crossover too. Tuesday, NetEase is talking waffle as it shows off a cool single-player idea. Wednesday, Session: Skate Sim got the first of three major updates from the 2025 roadmap, and Project Motor Racing got a release date and career showcase. Thursday, Endurance Motorsport Series adds Fuji and BMW, while Little Nightmares III got a release date.
Moving on to this week’s offerings on the Epic Games Store and we’ll start with something that I’ve previously covered, Sable. It was launched back in 2021, and was that thing you instantly wanted to know more about when it was shown off at E3. Developed by Shedworks, Sable takes a lot of inspiration visually from French/Belgian comics, particularly that of Jean Giraud. Giraud is probably best known outside of comics for doing concept and storyboard art for Alien, Tron, The Fifth Element, and The Abyss; some of the most visually striking films, and a James Cameron movie.
Playing as Sable (the character), a young woman who is part of a nomadic tribe called the Ibex, it comes time for her to go out and explore the area, find things, and generally, partake in the opening track of The Sparks’ Hello Young Lovers. Though being quite picturesque and lovely, the non-linear storytelling will leave some wanting direction or a sense of something to do. There are a few puzzles and lots to explore in Sable‘s large map, but the unique art style doesn’t make up for sub-60FPS, which I double-checked this week despite being quite busy.
On the mobile side of the Epic Games Store, however, we’ve got Weather Factory’s card-based cult-favorite cult-focused game, Cultist Simulator. A game that’s quite difficult to describe in a sentence without the person on the other side having played it, you explore, discover, and expand an entire cult with as little as a couple of cards and a few slots to place them. Once placed, timers start ticking down, and either you wait or you notice the additional slots for certain actions that will gain you new cards without hopefully dying.
If you’re like me and don’t have the time to sit for umpteen hours of one more run so the chips (or cards) fall just so for you to get the right combination of a special collection to complete certain objects, then Cultist Simulator might not be for you. However, if you snort Rogue-likes/lites like Robbie Fowler does touchlines, you’ll lose hours, probably on the toilet, given this is for mobile, in Cultist Simulator. You’ll also need to be extremely patient, as the mobile offering lets you pause time so you aren’t battling short wait timers, but in that, it is also clumsy.
All this week, you can pick up Sable on the Epic Games Store for PC, and you can pick up Cultist Simulator for the Epic Games Store for Android worldwide and iPhone in the EU. Both are available until the 6th of July. Moving on to next week and it is a double bill of strange and wonderful games once again. I talk about it all the time, but Figment‘s strange and wonderful dream world is something that you’ll love if you’re into green plants and rock music of the 70s. Additionally, Rogue-like fans and fans of Resident Evil 4 will fall in love with Backpack Hero.
