Predictions that we might see a Sony State of Play sometime around Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest came true. That means a recently quiet PlayStation company had a chance to prove naysayers wrong and show a slate of games worth building hype over. Was it enough to appease fans eager to see the latest and greatest available for their PlayStation 5? You’ll need to be the judge. It’s time to recap the Sony State of Play for June 2025. From new announcements to fresh looks at games we can’t wait to play, there seemingly was something for everyone in this event. Let’s dive into everything revealed during the June 4, 2025 Sony State of Play.
First up, Lumines Arise is evoking strong Tetris Effect vibes, combining the visceral experience of a visually stimulating game with the music and locked-in gameplay of a great puzzler. We’ll see the game arrive this fall.
Next up, Capcom revealed new IP. The game is described as a science fiction adventure with a unique two-in-one twist of action and strategy. From the trailer, I’m predicting a lot is being kept under wraps until deeper dives closer to launch, as Capcom is planning to release this game in 2026.
Next up, Romeo is a Dead Man promises the crimson-red catharsis of ultra-violent “bloody action.” Players will dive into a completely unpredictable story and witness the totally unhinged, all-new title from Grasshopper Manufacture in the future.
Following that announcement, we saw a first look at Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement. Set in a haunting world years before the events of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement follows Leo and the fearless Black Wolves as they prepare to storm the cursed Ethereal Castle and confront the rising darkness. Under the command of Lord Theodore, the warriors face horrific beasts and the malevolent Demon Lord Elias in a brutal battle for humanity’s survival.
Digital monster fans, rejoice. The trailer for Digimon Story Time Stranger revealed a release date of October 3rd. Plus, who doesn’t love a narrative-driven Digimon story?
To borrow professional wrestling terms, this next announcement got the biggest pop out of me. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles releases September 30, 2025!
Next up, Baby Steps begs the question, what if you had to pee really badly and life was as simple as putting one foot in front of the other? It was genuinely a surprise to see something like this revealed during the June 2025 Sony State of Play, but it was a pleasant surprise.
Following Baby Steps, Hirogami was revealed as a 3D action platformer inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami. Players are set to explore a beautiful origami world as Hiro, a fan-wielding master of the art of folding. Dive into this world and embark on a mystical journey to save your fragile home from deadly digital invaders. The game is set to release on September 3rd.
Players got a look at Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots next, which will arrive on September 4. PlayStation and Sony revealed a lot of games very quickly next, including the Ninja Gaiden 2D game Ragebound, arriving on July 31.
The climbing-focused game Cairn was revealed next, followed by the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. The package will include a similar experience to Atari 50.
Following this retro fighter collection, we saw a gameplay trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater.
Following our boy Solid Snake, we saw the first look at Nioh 3. Next, we got some VR reveals, including a PSVR2 Thief game, followed by the F2P voyage-themed RPG Sea of Remnants.
An announcement trailer for IO Interactive’s new James Bond game was up next. The look of Bond wasn’t necessarily a huge name like many predicted, but it was exciting to see that we are getting an original, origin-story Bond experience.
Next, if you wanted to see more Ghosts of Yotei, you didn’t necessarily get what you wanted. That said, you did get a confirmation that we’d see a deep dive into the game in July. You’ll have to settle for this gameplay trailer for now.
Closing out the June 2025 Sony State of Play is the title Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The game is a 4v4 tag team fighter, which I probably would not have guessed would close the show if you gave me 1,000 guesses.
