Monday, a new flavor of crystal meth was announced as Tabletop Game Shop Sim is set to release this year. Tuesday, turns out the MASH theme was right, but only as a way to get away from the PC Gaming Show, Super Farming Boy is Stardew, and the urge to bite a controller like it was Cuphead, and I give good advice while talking about the Modifiers Update to Hide the Corpse. Wednesday, American company PNY launched a MicroSD ahead of the Switch 2, and the next person who misunderstands BTS as a K-pop group exclusively is getting shot into the eye of the sun.
Moving on to the Epic Games Store and, aside from the Epic Games Store for mobile offering, it is actually an alright week. That or maybe I’m just riding the high, watching a team complete a league championship with a win. We’ll start with the mobile offering because why not? Gigapocalypse is not only the worst name for a dyslexic to try and write, but it is also the name of Goody Gameworks’ 2D fighter action title from the people who watched too much Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Not bad, but certainly not the highlight of the week.
The repeat of the week goes to Sifu, however. Or John Wick without guns, as it could be called, this is the semi-arcadey, difficult combat thing that was released back in 2022. Generally favored overall, you play as a literal longer-haired bloke with a beard who can kill with as little as a mop by using Bak Mei, the comparison is fairly plain to see. I’ll admit I’ve not put a lot of time in, only a couple of hours, and even then I’d hardly say I’m giving a great opinion here, Sifu is pretty good. I know, shocker!
Something I can actually give more of an opinion on is Studio Far Out Games and Konami’s Dick Dastardly and his Whacky Pickup Machines, Deliver At All Costs. Released only yesterday, the sort of 50s, Americana-style GTA mini-game of delivering strange packages to even stranger and more stylized locations. Each delivery, however, is an increasing challenge, from a 500lbs Marlin that will eat you if you’re slow to utterly disgusting, moldy, out-of-date watermelons being inflated, painted, and re-delivered as fresh produce. The latter of which you’ll probably throw across the road as you handbrake turn and don’t use a tarp over the back of the Pickup.
I guess my plan now is to focus on getting that review done for Monday, but I’ll say this much: it is fun. Not just because of the very stylized world and the over-the-top gameplay, but also the destructive element. Designed like Red Faction Guerrilla, you can plow through buildings like an Amazon driver who hasn’t taken a poo since 6 AM and had a questionable burrito for lunch. Maybe the story is a little underserved, but the gameplay certainly offers something refreshing for its open-world destruction ’em up.
All this week you can pick up Gigapocalypse, Sifu, and Deliver At All Costs on the Epic Games Store until the morning of the 29th of May. Gigapocalypse is also the offering on the Epic Games Store mobile app this week. As for next week, I’m going to have fun being out during the reveal of whatever is available and come back to find I still hate everyone and everything all at once. Just a couple more weeks of these mystery games and the Epic Mega Sale, then we’ll be back to whatever you call the typical weekly offerings. Dull most of the time.
