Gears of War: Reloaded to Launch this Summer

Gears of War always stuck out to me as a game that defined who Xbox was as a company and brand. Its focus on multiplayer, storytelling, and core game mechanics that do the heavy lifting for the player’s experience makes the franchise one of my favorites of all time. For years, rumors circulated that a Gears of War collection of remasters might be released. However, it appears like Xbox is trying a different approach. What was once an Xbox exclusive and staple for the company’s identity is now coming to PS5 and PC, as well as Xbox platforms, in the brand new Gears of War: Reloaded.

Gears of War: Reloaded is coming this August to PS5, Xbox platforms, and Steam. The brand-new version of the first game in this iconic series will feature 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and multiplayer with cross-progression and cross-play across all platforms. The series turns 20 next year, which makes its 2025 release a bit of a curiosity, but I would imagine we might see Gears of War: E-Day pushed back to next year. The game was originally one of the many exclusives that made the Xbox 360 such a dominant force for console gaming, but now, the game comes to more platforms during a new chapter for the Xbox brand.

With its “This is an Xbox” campaign, Microsoft is trying to put its games everywhere. I could not be more thrilled for PlayStation players who might be getting their hands on this for the first time. I’m also hopeful we get some remastered versions of other Gears games. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has already remastered the first title in the franchise, but the other entries have not seen the same treatment. Ideally, this will sell well, and we’ll see more fans come into the fold.

Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26, 2025, for $39.99 USD on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. It also arrives day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
