One of the namesake games for the Metroidvania genre, Castlevania, is not only a great game to play but also oozes aesthetics and style. The art direction, the vampire lore, and the colors of those iconic games stay with you forever. A new, upcoming roguelite seeks to evoke the gameplay and vampiric energy from that iconic series in the gothic Metroidvania, Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch.

Set to release in 2026 and gearing up for a big PAX East hands-on experience, Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch is a game from Filipino developer Phoenix Up! Media and publisher Soft Source. The game puts players in control of Ayana Crimson, a Bloodbreaker, which allows her to daywalk even though she’s a demon-hunting vampire.

When the white witch, Brendowyn Sangrianon, captures Ayana’s brother, Ayana descends into the Labyrinth, which changes every time she attempts to traverse its depths. Lighting and saturated colors make this game stand out immediately, with art inspirations from the aforementioned Castlevania series, as well as anime and manga art.

The blending of those two art styles, as depicted in the press screenshots and trailer below, really look amazing. I’m eager to see more from this title, particularly what elements of randomized game progression are offered. With no shortage of roguelites or Metroidvanias to play in 2025, standing out is important. Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch looks like it might be up to the task.

Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch is currently in development and set for release in 2026, and is now available to wishlist on Steam. Folks attending PAX East 2025 from May 8-11 can play a demo at Booth 21097. Let us know in the comments if you plan to check this game out when it releases!
