After yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch 2 is the only thing on my mind. With new information coming out almost nonstop since the presentation, gamers are curious as to what games and accessories will work with the new console if they’re bringing purchases over from the Nintendo Switch. We have more information on what accessories will work with the Nintendo Switch 2, including some of the first-ever third-party accessories developed for the new console. Here’s what we know about Switch 2 accessory compatibility.

Nintendo published a list of compatible accessories that exist in their current accessory ecosystem. Things like the Joy-Cons, Pro Controller, and Nintendo Switch Online retro controllers for the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and SEGA Genesis are compatible with Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch dock will not work with the Switch 2 due to the size and design differences, but you can charge your Switch 2 with a Nintendo Switch AC adapter when plugged in directly.

As laid out in the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 Rundown we published, microSD cards must be the Express version for the Switch 2. As for third-party accessories, it looks like things that connect wirelessly for the Nintendo Switch should connect and work wirelessly for the Switch 2. Of course, plenty of companies will create Nintendo Switch 2-specific accessories, and we know from a few companies that these products have been in production and development for nearly a year.

The consumer electronic brand snakebyte revealed a slew of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories yesterday that they say have been in development for over 12 months. Things like carrying cases and controller chargers that specifically support Joy-Con 2s or the Nintendo Switch 2 will certainly catch the eyes of gamers buying the new console. For example, old Joy-Con Charging Stand accessories from Nintendo won’t support Joy-Con 2s, but the snakebyte Twin Charge S2 and Quad Charge S2 will.
