Cities: Skylines Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

The days of SimCity hold a nostalgic place in many gamers’ minds. For newer fans of the entertainment medium, and particularly of games where you get to manage systems and strategy within a fictional world, Cities: Skylines is a new-age successor to the city-building genre. Over the past 10 years, the Finnish Studio Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive welcomed over 45 million players to test their luck at building great cities of the future. After a decade of incredible memories, the studios are celebrating the game’s 10-year anniversary with several upcoming releases and free updates for players.

In a press release from Paradox Interactive, the publisher announced that both Cities: Skylines and Cities: Skylines II would see expansive new updates. First, the sequel title, Cities: Skylines II, is getting a free anniversary patch that includes new buildings and parks centered around the series’ birthday. New creator packs and three radio stations are also going to be for sale, all of which will be added to the Ultimate Edition of the game upon release for free if players own that top-tier version. A few free updates also include additional leisure venues, content packs centered around China and Mediterranean heritage, and much more.

The original game will also get an anniversary patch that includes a new radio station, the Countryside content pack, and an Emerging Downtown pack for those who aren’t looking to rock the rural approach. The entire Cities: Skylines series will also be featured in several promotions throughout March, including a Free-to-Play weekend on Steam during March 20-24.

A new subscription service will become available starting on March 13, 2025, allowing players to add the entire 65+ DLC catalog to their game for a single monthly subscription fee, and for existing players, there will be a special completion offer to fill out their DLC collection.
