Considering how terrible my attention span and short-term memory are, headlines I come across usually have to try especially hard to capture and hold my attention in just a few words. That’s exactly what happened when I stumbled upon a press release announcing Foundlings, an upcoming pixel-art fantasy RPG developed and published by Turkish studio Maypole Games. That headline is as follows: “Two Outcast Mages Seek Redemption in War-Torn Medieval England.” As soon as I read that, the combination of Foundlings’ premise and setting quickly convinced me that I should definitely keep an eye on Foundlings as its development progresses.
Given my taste in games, that’s unsurprising. Here’s how the press release pitches Foundlings: “Apprentice healer Agnes and ex-executioner Frant are arrested for unsanctioned magic and tasked with investigating a rogue mages’ guild behind growing unrest. Their mission quickly expands beyond its original purpose, carrying them through villages and wilderness marked by unexplained disturbances, where they uncover desperate lives, harsh truths, and the consequences of unchecked power. Through branching dialogue, moral dilemmas, and evolving relationships, players shape each encounter and influence not only the outcome of the investigation, but also the bond between Agnes and Frant, and ultimately who they become.”
As of this article’s publication, no concrete information is available about when Foundlings will release or how much it will cost once it’s out. Its Steam Store page lists its release date as the ever-frustrating “coming soon” and contains no mention of price whatsoever. The press release states that Foundlings is “slated to release in 2026.” That’s at least somewhat more specific than “coming soon,” but there’s always the specter of possible, unexpected delays lurking near any game in development. Foundlings will be available on PC via Steam, though there’s no word about a release on any other platforms.
