I’ve covered a few Limited Run game releases before, and absolutely love their commitment to preserving old titles, as well as indie games by producing high-quality physical releases and collections. This week, the publisher has announced a collaboration with Marvel Games and Konami Digital Entertainment. The Marvel MaXimum Collection contains six classic 8-bit and 16-bit titles from various platforms.

Titles within this collection include gems, such as X-Men: The Arcade Game, a classic beat ’em up that now features full online multiplayer to take on Magneto with friends. Captain America and the Avengers is a platformer that features the titular hero, along with characters like Hawkeye, The Vision, and Iron Man. Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage, as well as the sequel Separation Anxiety, are also included. These arcade beat ’em ups allow you to switch between both the SNES and Sega Genesis versions freely to experience the iconic symbiote storyline, which is a nice touch.

This is also possible with the next game, Spider-Man and X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge. This title features a storyline where the heroes are captured by the niche super genius inventor, Arcade, and forced to escape his deathtrap amusement park, known as Murderworld. The final game in this collection is the 8-bit Silver Surfer side-scrolling shooter. In this title, the Surfer undertakes a mission from Galactus to acquire a mysterious Cosmic Device and battles various characters from the comics like Mephisto, Kylor, and Firelord.

The Marvel MaXimum Collection will offer a variety of extra content and some nice quality-of-life enhancements for players. In terms of quality of life, you can expect things like save states and rewind options, as well as the ability to play with modern graphical enhancements or custom CRT filters. Alternatively, you can dive into the digital archives, which allow you to explore virtual reproductions and scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and even old school advertisements for various games. Furthermore, the music player lets you listen to every song in the collection to your heart’s content.

The Marvel MaXimum Collection is available now to download for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The physical version of the game is also available for pre-order until May 24th, with a planned shipment in the second half of this year.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
