Monday, Alexx rides JRPG-inspired games, like SoulStream, more than I rode NUTMEG! this week. Tuesday, Runescape is still a thing, somehow, and Taylor thinks the MMORPG is on the rise. Wednesday, hack and slash platformer and “Rogue-Vania,” Atomic Owl, now has a release date for consoles. Thursday, after the surprise release of Silksong last year, Sintopia will be released very soon. If you only knew how busy this week has been, four news articles this week are surprisingly light.

Moving on to the Epic Games Store, and we’ve got another triple bill to bash our heads against this week. I think we’ll start with the game that I said looked like a “Roblox-on-Ozempic art style” last week, Havendock. A city-building/colony-sim thing that looks like the most basic crafting/building game, albeit with an art style that makes me want to be sick in my hands and clap with my mouth open. Somehow YYZ Studio’s Havendock is highly praised, but I fail to see the appeal.
Similarly, I’ll be critical of GangoGames LLC’s 2021 release, Hyper Echelon, as I’m about the only person on the planet who really doesn’t like top-down shoot ’em ups. It isn’t even the photosensitivity thing; it is plainly how the majority of them feel – it is difficult to bring that gameplay from a feeling perspective into the 21st century, no less this decade. Much like MMOs or sucking on your dad’s toes, the top-down shooter thing just isn’t for me, and it makes covering the likes of Hyper Echelon difficult despite the praise elsewhere for it.

The mobile offering this week seems like someone actually decided to listen to me, which makes a change. Released in 2023 on Steam, The Wreck is a “Choices Matter” 3D visual novel type of game about a failed screenwriter who, without your choices mattering, will get into a car crash thanks to a useless Dear. Damn vegan screenwriters with their “woke” ideas of empathy and caring about others. The Wreck is fully voiced in English though, which is a positive that developer The Pixel Hunt thought about Dyslexics like me.
All this week, you can pick up Havendock and Hyper Echelon on the Epic Games Store for PC, with The Wreck available for the Epic Games Store on mobile via Android worldwide and iOS in the EU. Moving on to next week and I’m very happy! Not only is it one game, currently, but it is a good game that I like. Clone Drone in the Danger Zone is a Robot Wars-like arena battling thing that’s a very satisfying voxel-based 3D fighter.
