To intentionally misquote Van Halen: “Nobody rules these streets at night but me – the Atomic Owl!” Atomic Owl, the self-described “gorgeous avian side[-]scroller” from developer Monster Theater and publisher Eastasiasoft, will soon be coming home to roost on several consoles. Atomic Owl has been available on PC via Steam and GOG since July 31st, 2025. Interested players will be able to purchase Atomic Owl on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the Microsoft Store for Windows on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026. Here’s what the press release has to say about this announcement:

Atomic Owl is a gorgeously animated hack-and-slash action platformer with roguelite elements. Players take the role of a samurai-styled owl named Hidalgo Bladewing on his journey to rescue his companions from an old foe, accompanied by a brash-talking sword. Featuring vibrant hand-crafted pixel art and surreal imaginative settings inspired by Japanese culture and anachronistic fantasy, Atomic Owl delivers a rich and challenging gameplay experience amidst its heroic narrative. Console versions of Atomic Owl include a variety of rebalanced features, bug fixes and a new more accessible ‘NO ROGUELITE’ mode, making it the definitive way to play the game for hardcore fans and newcomers alike.”

Although the press release mentions that several tweaks to Atomic Owl’s gameplay and the ‘no roguelite’ mode will be coming to its console ports, the press release says nothing about whether these changes will also be added to the existing PC version. Since Monster Theater has been using the PC version of Atomic Owl as a basis to track and fix bugs leading up to the console release, however, I’d imagine all versions of Atomic Owl will be updated for the sake of parity. Atomic Owl will cost you $12.99 USD or your regional equivalent, the same as on Steam and GOG.
