Football video games naturally turn to the whole playing the game itself, but there is an increasing number that aren’t so focused on that anymore. Between football management games and business sims in general, as well as my beloved Hooligans: Storm Over Europe, there is an increasing number of non-ball-kicking games on the market. One that I’m highly excited about is Triple Espresso S.A.’s Copa City, an economics/fan experience sort of management game. I’ve been excited about it since it was first revealed years ago, and now we’re only two months away from launch – barring anything major happening.
Now, according to a new press release, the sixth licensed team has been revealed. It seems that when Copa City launches late in May, you’ll be able to manage fan zones for the French club Olympique de Marseille. Here is what the press release has to say on the announcement:
“Olympique de Marseille, one of France’s most iconic football clubs and a symbol of Mediterranean football culture, is officially joining Copa City, the immersive city management game where players take charge of preparing an entire city for the thrilling build-up to the big match. With its legendary blue-and-white identity and one of the most passionate fanbases in world football, Olympique de Marseille brings the unmistakable energy of Marseille into the vibrant world of Copa City.
In Copa City, players will take on the challenge of preparing their city for the arrival of Olympique de Marseille supporters. Streets fill with blue-and-white colors, the chant of ‘Aux Armes!’ echoes through the crowd, and the anticipation of kickoff spreads across the city. From organizing fan zones to managing the flow of thousands of traveling supporters, every decision shapes the match-day atmosphere.

Transform the city into a sea of blue and white. Build vibrant fan zones, decorate streets with club banners, and prepare gathering spots where Marseille supporters can celebrate before the match.
Welcome thousands of passionate supporters arriving for the big match. Coordinate transportation, security, and city infrastructure to ensure everything runs smoothly while excitement builds across the city.

Bring the traditions of Olympique de Marseille into every corner of the match-day atmosphere– From iconic chants like ‘Aux Armes’ to the electric supporter culture that has made Olympique de Marseille famous around the world.“
Commercial Director of Olympique de Marseille, Grégory La Mela, said of the announcement: “Olympique de Marseille represents a unique football culture built on passion, pride, and a deep connection between the club and its city. Through Copa City, players around the world will be able to experience the energy that surrounds our matches — from the chants of the supporters to the unforgettable atmosphere of match day.“

While CEO at Triple Espresso, Jakub Szumielewicz, said: “Working with Olympique de Marseille is a tremendous honor and distinction for our company. Olympique de Marseille represents one of the most passionate supporter cultures in world football — something we have always admired and respected. From the very beginning of our project, we wanted Copa City to capture the unique atmosphere that surrounds football clubs and their communities.“
Olympique de Marseille joins the already stacked set of clubs, including CR Flamengo, Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern München, Beşiktaş J.K, and of course, Arsenal FC. Copa City is set to be released on the 21st of May for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
