While I’ve never been that much of an Apex Legends fan, I’ve recently become a big fan of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. It’s certainly one of the best sci-fi franchises, and it’s always exciting to see quality works given attention. This week, Respawn Entertainment announced a collaboration with the legendary series, which will begin on March 10th.
As is the case with most themed events, players can expect a host of new cosmetics, maps, and weapons along with some special gameplay features. The event will allow players to unlock the iconic Buster Rifle through care packages in-game. Additionally, players can utilize Bit Staves, the signature armaments of Gundam Lfrith from MSG: The Witch From Mercury, as shields to absorb damage.

Characters will be able to unleash a variety of themed abilities in the Wildcard game mode during this event. These include Epyon’s Lash, Heavyarms Salvo, Zero Sacrifice, and Zero Rebirth. Epyon’s Lash is a simple melee pull ability, while Heavyarms Salvo marks all enemies for air strikes after landing successive hits, ensuring a quick death. The two most interesting abilities are certainly Zero Sacrifice and Rebirth. Zero Sacrifice lets the user trigger an optional explosion on death to take down more enemies, while Rebirth revives the user with 1 HP, gaining temporary invulnerability and health regen.
Eight characters from among the Apex Legends roster will receive exclusive Gundam Skins. Highlights include a Wing Gundam Zero skin for Valkyrie, Gundam Epyon for Alter, and the Deathscythe Hell Gundam for Revenant. Other models represented include Gundam Aerial, Freedom Gundam, Gundam Xi, Destiny Gundam Spec II, and GQuuuuuux. The event will also feature weapon skins like the Epyon Heat Rod and the Beam Saber.

In terms of maps, this event will see some cosmetic changes to the Broken Moon arena, which will now feature destroyed mobile suits and spaceships battling overhead alongside massive traversable statues of the Wing Gundam.
To cap off the celebration, Bandai Namco will be releasing some Apex Legends-inspired Gunpla kits themed on Valkyrie, Alter, and Crypto, respectively. These will go on sale starting March 18th and will be produced in limited quantities, meaning once they are sold out, they are gone for good. Apex Legends is free to play and available now for PC, PS4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
