Action Rogue-lites are part of my bread and butter. I love the progression systems, the mobility, and the fluid combat…if a Rogue-lite is done correctly. Now, Publisher XD has just announced a new game that has my curiosity.

Publisher XD has announced DemonBane Ascension, a fast-paced Action Rogue-lite that blends cultivation mythology with action combat. We don’t have a release date yet, but there’s a lot to learn just from what we’ve seen so far. Here is what the press release says about DemonBane Ascension:

“Publisher XD today officially announces DemonBane Ascension, a fast-paced, artifact-driven action Rogue-lite developed by Howkey Deer, alongside a brand-new announcement trailer showcasing both gameplay and story elements. Inspired by cultivation mythology and The Investiture of the Gods, DemonBane Ascension is coming to PC via Steam.

In DemonBane Ascension, players take on the role of a Banebreaker, a mortal bound by fate, descending again and again into a cursed world reshaped with every run. Combat is fast, skill-based, and build-driven: players wield legendary weapons, equip mythic artifacts that activate automatically in battle, and forge powerful synergies through the Five Elements system. Artifacts are more than equipment; they define each run, enabling wildly different playstyles through deep, Rogue-lite customization.

Beyond combat, players will explore five ever-shifting regions under a looming blood moon, facing demons, fallen gods, and myth-inspired events drawn from a reimagined post-Deification era. Between runs, permanent progression systems allow players to break through cultivation realms, endure Heavenly Tribulations, and unlock transformative powers that reshape future descents. As forgotten scrolls are uncovered and legendary figures encountered, a darker truth behind the so-called Heavenly Tao slowly comes into focus.”

A demo for DemonBane Ascension will be available soon, according to the dev team. However, we don’t know when the game will be released, or if there will be any other platforms. Regardless, I’m curious to see more as the game develops.
