This past week was an especially exciting one for Dragon Ball fans like myself. With the recent passing of Toriyama, the franchise’s future has been a little uncertain. However, Bandai Namco has not only announced a brand-new game project and continued support for current releases, but also the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

By far the most exciting news came with the teaser for Age 1000, a brand new Dragon Ball game. This title is set for release in 2027 and features a new original story and characters designed by Akira Toriyama. Bandai has promised to reveal more details regarding this upcoming project at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour event held from April 18th to 19th. Next came the announcement of new DLC for Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero. The update will add six new fighters to the roster and consists of King Piccolo, Super 17, and Bardock, with the rest to be revealed at a later date. I’m happy to see these additions as they were staples of the previous entries in the Dragon Ball Budokai series.

Alongside characters, the DLC will add additional costumes and stages. However, players can also expect some free DLC in the form of new game modes. The first is a story-based solo mode called Mission 100. Players will complete battles with special victory conditions and modifications. Additionally, a survival mode will be added in the spring as a free update as well.

Lastly, this presentation also announced the long-awaited return of the Dragon Ball Super anime. The Galactic Patrol story arc follows Goku and Vegeta as they travel to a distant world to battle the powerful planet-eating sorcerer known as Moro. It’s quite an entertaining storyline that has been published in the Manga for a few years now. As if that wasn’t enough, the first arc of Dragon Ball Super, featuring the storyline from the Battle of Gods movie, will also be reanimated and remade to feature more cut content. This is planned for release in the Fall of 2026.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
