Listen, I’m not going to sit here and bemoan the fact that I passed up covering the pretty Persona-like that I’ve been banging the drum for for a while now, Demonschool. We’ll acknowledge that I was sick; it felt wrong to do that review slowly while others would do it quickly, and I’m going to go smack my head against a brick wall with sharp edges for having to pass up covering it. Yes, I am quite angry with myself for that one. Let’s talk about Demonschool nonetheless.

Released a little under two weeks ago, Necrosoft Games and Ysbryd Games’ Demonschool is a puzzle-based Persona-like or, as Alexx put it, Persona 3-inspired game. The overall sense of style and general look of Demonschool instantly made me bang the drum for this delightfully colorful and charming title a few years ago, and now, with generally positive reviews across the board, the team at Necrosoft Games is refining and maintaining Demonschool with a second major patch update, released over the weekend.

As noted in the Steam update news, the second big update provides a few fixes and updates that were a little rough at times. One of the major fixes and updates is the removal of the “Add Stun” ability in-game, which “had accidentally been left in the store. This was an older version of the Stunner skill and was not actually usable. If you have bought this skill, next time you open your save, the game will refund you the 700 opals you spent on the ability.” The update now also shows the profile screen in-game when students return from rest.

This, alongside visual things during boss battles, typos being corrected, fixing hard crashes, and adding Vsync and framerate capping options to help with performance, there is plenty being worked on. With the first post-launch update being on the 22nd of November, and this second one coming on the 29th, one might assume a third may be coming this coming weekend, as the team at Necrosoft Games spends the time bug-squashing. Demonschool is available now on Nintendo Switch (where Taylor reviewed it), Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and (of course) on PC via Steam and Itch.io.

Necrosoft Games and publisher Ysbryd Games have also managed to snag a few Steam bundles for those who may also want to pick up Subset Games’ Into The Breach, or Francis Coulombe and Devolver Digital’s Look Outside. Both are offering a small discount on both games in each bundle. You can also pick up Demonschool until the 3rd of December for 10% off on Steam, dropping the game from $24.99 to $22.49. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ve got a meeting with a brick wall demon that I’ll be fighting until late tonight.
