I’ve only had two proper sit-downs with TVGS’ Schedule I, albeit over a couple of days each time. Sure, I’ve amassed enough drugs to keep South California furnished with distractions for the next three years, which is all to say I quite enjoy the early access drug-based GTA ’em up. Well, it seems we’ve another update following the “Cartel” update at the end of August.

Titled the Halloween update (though days late), the Steam update post notes: “This update adds a new sewer system under the Hyland Point. You’ll need to get [hold] of a sewer access key to get down there. The sewers offer a new way to navigate Hyland Point without having to worry about police and cartel members, but it isn’t without [its] risks…“
In the late game, that’s not so much of an issue, especially if you’ve got a shotgun and a Scottish attitude to people. However, I still like the idea, especially during the early game, as you need to go out and get supplies from certainly lovely people who provide less-than-legal items. I’ve already admitted to shooting the cops and holding enough drugs in my van/warehouse to fund local projects, like Al Capone – buying weed seeds and pseudoephedrine can be a faff at certain times. Get me down there with Dr Munda and Morris!

A small list of additions includes the climbing system, sewers, a 2×1 plastic table, a trash crown, a garbage throne, “Sewer Goblin,” and of course “Sewer King,” to name a few additions this time around. The update also includes some work towards optimization: “Most of this work is in the form of small tweaks and reworks, but it should all add up to provide a decent (10-15%) boost [in] framerate.” As well as typical update patch notes, tweaks, and bug fixes.
I think Schedule I and Clair Obscur really are symbols of this year as a whole, small/one-person teams making what are arguably the best games in the face of big-budget Triple-A titles. Drill it down, Schedule I is the same as Minecraft, a simple gameplay loop that is repeated and feeds into every other system while in a game with a “basic” art style. I’m not being hyperbolic, of the 55+ games that have been released and I’ve played this year, Schedule I sits high (not a pun) on my list to recommend. I don’t like saying games are addictive, but you’ll lose hours far too easily.
