I don’t know anyone else’s idea of customer service, but I think I’ve got it right: Scream at the customer until they go away, or shoot them in the head with a shotgun. It is nothing but effective. It seems that some agree, as Silver Lining Interactive and Nolyn Vansyckle’s Service with a Shotgun lets you deal with the customer like a proper fall of civilization. Set following the zombie apocalypse, it seems the gas station you work at has the same policy as Waffle House, and you’re the only green dot for FEMA to rely on.
“Service With a Shotgun [SWAS] is a mash-up of visual-novel storytelling and wave-shooter mayhem. A tongue-in-cheek jab at capitalism that puts you through customer service hell,” notes the press release. Yeah, I’m not just talking about this one out of the kindness of my heart; there is a reason I’m mentioning this one today, the press release continues: “Publisher Silver Lining Interactive and solo developer Nolyn Vansyckle have locked and loaded November 6th for the release of Service With a Shotgun [SWAS] on PC via Steam.” With a demo available now, even after the Next Fest, and you can of course wishlist Service with a Shotgun on Steam too.
Talking more about what to expect from Service with a Shotgun, the press release notes, “Retail, but Make It Apocalyptic: Step into the tattered shoes of the last poor soul running a roadside shop in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The “Open” sign flickers, the shelves are half-empty, and lunatic customers line up as the undead wander past the window. It’s retail… with more bite. Shoot straight, talk fast, and try not to lose your mind. Surely nothing can go wrong. Right?
Survival Customer Service: Between long shifts, desperate shoppers, and the occasional zombie snack attack, you’re keeping the business alive – barely. SWAS combines visual novel storytelling with chaotic wave-based shooting to make every shift a rollercoaster of bullets, banter, and bizarre encounters.
Meet Unhinged Customers: From quirky regulars to last-minute emergencies, the rotating cast of characters keeps each chapter unpredictable. Build defenses, blast hordes of the undead, and navigate absurd scenarios that make even the apocalypse feel like a bad workday.
Five Chapters of Pure Chaos: Every chapter cranks up the madness with new characters, wild twists, and ever-escalating threats. One thing’s for sure: the apocalypse doesn’t wait, and neither do your customers.“
From a Professor Rowan type to one of those shaved-side dyed hair types, it seems almost anyone can survive the apocalypse these days. I’ll be there, albeit with a 300-3000% markup on everything in the store. As noted above, Service with a Shotgun will be releasing on November 6th, though the press release doesn’t have a price listed, and neither does the announcement on Steam. I guess we’ll both find out on November 6th as we shoot the bity customers for being too much like TwitchCon attendees.
