As a big Final Fantasy and fighting game fan, I’ve always wanted to give the Dissidia series a try. However, considering the series hasn’t been ported to many platforms, it’s been difficult. Based on recent news, Square Enix aims to fix that with this brand-new entry. This week, Square confirmed Dissidia Duellum: Final Fantasy is not only in development and planned for a 2026 release, but will be releasing for IOS, Android, and mobile devices.

While this news usually elicits a negative response from general audiences, I feel here there is less cause for concern. Square Enix has released a fair few mobile titles over the years, and most have retained the high level of quality and production value that people expect from the studio. Additionally, since Dissidia was originally a PSP exclusive, it makes sense for the next entry to release on a handheld device. Therefore, I remain slightly optimistic for this title and hope it can still provide some enjoyment for hardcore fans.

This new entry in the Dissidia series will be free to play, and you can sign up for the closed beta from now until October 28th. This beta will take place from November 7th through the 14th in the US and Canada. Dissidia Duellum features 3v3 gameplay where two teams will fight against monsters in a race to defeat the boss. Players will construct teams featuring legendary heroes from across the sixteen mainline Final Fantasy games and experience a new original story.

Set in Tokyo, a mysterious crystal appears and causes dangerous monsters to emerge. Fortunately, an ever-expanding cast of heroes appears to stop them and save humanity. Traversing the city and purifying crystals will allow your team members to accumulate bravery, which can then be utilized to unleash powerful skills. As with most mobile titles, you can expect a hefty amount of cosmetics and events that will give players many incentives to keep playing. While I am hoping for a more traditional PVP mode and an eventual PC release, I imagine these will be things that will come after the full launch. If you are interested in the game or wish to sign up for the beta, you can do so through the game’s official website

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
