It seems Valve has deigned to show our wallets some mercy by no longer scheduling the Steam Autumn Sale to end exactly three weeks before the start of the Winter Sale. Even though I knew about this change well in advance (and even wrote about it), I’ve still been caught unprepared by the Autumn Sale in that I didn’t write up a recommendation roundup ahead of time. Oh well, nothing is stopping me from writing one now. Since the Autumn Sale is a more “minor” event, this list will be shorter than my roundups for the Summer and Winter Sales. On with the list!

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI ($5.99 for the base game, $29.64 for the full Anthology bundle)

Ah, Civilization VI, my most faithful contingency plan for exactly this kind of situation. If you’ve been part of our audience for a while, you could probably have guessed this entry was coming. Civilization VI has so much content, especially if you buy the full Anthology bundle with all its DLC, that I still think I’ve hardly scratched the surface of its offerings even after playing for nearly 800 hours. I can easily see myself spending at least another 800 hours playing Civilization 6, even though its successor has been sitting in my Steam library vying for my attention for some time now.

Brütal Legend ($2.99 for the base game, $3.99 for the game and the soundtrack)

I switched from Windows to Linux two months ago at the time of writing, and yet it wasn’t until I started writing this entry that I discovered using “alt codes” to properly type the “ü” in Brütal Legend’s title doesn’t work on Linux. Regardless, considering Ozzy Osbourne passed away earlier this year and he played a crucial role in Brütal Legend’s story, I thought recommending Brütal Legend here would be a fitting (if paltry) way for me to pay tribute to his legacy. Brütal Legend was also the first game I reviewed here on Phenixx Gaming, which is bittersweet to think about.

Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection Bundle ($6.96 for 17 games)

I was originally just going to recommend Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 by itself, partially because it contains what I consider to be the greatest cutscene in the history of video games. However, it seems Red Alert 3 can now only be purchased as part of this bundle unless you want to play it by subscribing to EA Play. Considering this bundle gives you a whopping 17 games for less than the price of my usual coffee order, I’d say that’s an excellent deal. If you’re looking to scratch a classic real-time strategy game itch, you can’t go wrong with this bundle.

Heroes for Hire – Guild Micromanagement Simulator [Early Access] ($6.39)

Alright, I’ll readily admit that Heroes for Hire seems to be a game that’s custom-tailored to be enjoyed by me, specifically. However, if you have a few important things in common with me, I’m sure you’ll like it, too. As its title suggests, Heroes for Hire is a management simulator in which you use a computer that looks like it’s running a more advanced version of Windows 98 to equip, strengthen, and order around a guild of player characters in an MMORPG. Heroes for Hire is a recent Early Access release, but it looks quite promising so far.

David Sanders is, at his core, a man who's just trying to get through his game backlog before the heat death of the universe, and yet can't seem to stop adding to said game backlog. He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several notable RPGs and turn-based strategy titles. When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
