A new major content update for Darkest Dungeon II is nearly here. This update, officially titled “Curse of the Court,” will add the third and final so-called “adventure module” to Darkest Dungeon II’s Kingdoms gameplay mode. The “Curse of the Court” update is scheduled to launch on PC and Mac on Thursday, August 28th, 2025. The developers of the Darkest Dungeon franchise, Red Hook Studios, made the much vaguer statement in a press release that “a console version will follow at a later time.” The “Curse of the Court” update will be available for free once it has launched.

As I mentioned, “Curse of the Court” is the last content that will be added to Darkest Dungeon II’s Kingdoms mode. The first two “adventure modules” were Hunger of the Beast Clan and Secrets of the Coven. “Curse of the Court” reintroduces the Bloodsuckers, a faction of enemy vampires who first appeared in the original Darkest Dungeon’s downloadable content, The Crimson Court. Red Hook Studios stated that this update will add “three new Kingdoms maps for players to explore, a brand new quest line,” and new achievements players can strive to unlock.

“Curse of the Court” will also introduce a new mechanic that’s (quite fittingly) called Curse. Red Hook Studios hasn’t provided much detail on this aspect of the “Curse of the Court” update, but they did say the Curse mechanic will somehow affect the core gameplay loop of Kingdoms mode. Considering that the Darkest Dungeon franchise’s narrator, Wayne June, passed away earlier this year, I must admit that I’m somewhat surprised to see another new major update for Darkest Dungeon II so soon. I’m still really curious about what Red Hook Studios might do without him, though I’m confident they’ll figure out a respectable solution in due time.
