I don’t need to be told. I know I’m practically a caricature as I sit here listening to my playlist of bagpipes, talking about a game from a “Scottish-German indie studio” and its newly released game. Released yesterday into early access, Yaldi Games’ colorful and delightful-looking wholesome little cozy adventure game, Out and About, is something we’ve previously covered. Ok, it was among several other things, but I did make a pointed reference during this year’s Wholesome Direct rather than talking about the game, so let’s make up for that now.

In Out and About, you explore and forage for plants, learning as close to real foraging as possible with a game. You’ll learn how to identify and use certain plants, if you were ever in need of the knowledge of what is and isn’t edible in the wild. Though, as my topical reference during the Wholesome Direct was about, in the UK, despite not picking anything and there being no evidence to say as such, be careful what you forage, if you forage, and where you do forage. However, to do that, you also need to know what you are looking for.

With Out and About currently in early access, Yaldi Games offers 57 plants and fungi to identify in-game, with 90 recipes to make. It isn’t just a game about looking at plants, but rather finding the plants, fungi, and seaweed to cook, create herbal remedies, and, as is typical with these sorts of wholesome games, rebuild the community. As well as the plants, fungi, and seaweed, you have 10 characters to befriend, with 3 friendship levels to grow, currently in early access. As the press release and early access section of Steam notes, there are plans for more than 100 plants and fungi to find and identify.

Out and About is currently out and about on Steam in early access, with the intention to stay there, updating and refining the game for about a year. Once there, Yaldi Games plans on porting Out and About to Nintendo Switch (probably Switch 2 by that point) and Xbox, as far as we know. I’m excited to see more from Out and About while it is in early access.
