Monday, DREDGE developer Black Salt Games announced a sister studio and teased new games, and I might have gone on a bit of an editorial rant about how Xbox can’t manage developers. Tuesday, Edgerunners is getting a second season, and if you’re around the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, you can get hands-on with Project Motor Racing. Wednesday, Jeffrey is a [blank] for this Prime Day Prime Gaming nonsense. Thursday, Wolcen Studio teased more of its next project, which might take another five years to develop, again.
On to the Epic Games Store and what is available this week, and I think we’ll start with what I basically called “a side-scrolling Shmup crossed with a block-breaking sort of tennis thing.” I’d love to be more detailed on Sky Racket from Double Dash Studios, a game from way back in ye oldy of 2019, but that’s basically it in a nutshell. A pixel art shoot ’em up that aims to ape the arcade era of gaming, right down to a Pong reference. If I were a fan of shoot ’em ups, then I’d be far more excited, but I’m weird, so I’m not.
A little more modern, but just as stylized, Bedtime Digital Games and 4Divinity’s Figment 2: Creed Valley is a sequel to a game that I adore. Which was also the game we covered last week. A bit odd to say the least, Figment is an adventure series where you play as Rusty, the embodiment of courage within someone’s mind, and solve puzzles, fight bosses, and explore strange and wonderful locations within the mind. Abstract is the word we’re supposed to use, because “criminally insane” is ableist now, I think.
Figment 2: Creed Valley is also the free game available through the Epic Games Store’s mobile marketplace, available worldwide on Android and only in the EU for iOS users. It’s difficult to say that’s exciting, given half the fun of Figment is the visuals, and to have that covered by your thumbs probably isn’t great.
All this week, you can pick up Figment 2: Creed Valley on the Epic Games Store for PC and for mobile, and you can pick up Sky Racket for PC too. Moving on to next week, I’ll have to talk about someone I called “gig-leh-a-mesh” that one time, because dyslexia is fun with historical figures. While people bemoan the 7th edition, you’ll be able to pick up Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Platinum Edition, which includes 6 DLCs and 2 expansions on top of the base game. That includes the Australia pack, which I assume is led by a bloke called Mick who has strong views on Aboriginals.
