Right, I’m binning off bemoaning Jeffrey’s wedding in Venice, because someone has made a mess of Prime Gaming, and not just because two things appeared on Tuesday, July 1st, out of nowhere. I’ve gone through backlogs up to February of this year, I’ve checked my own articles, and the only time I’ve spoken about Stray Gods during Prime Gaming was back when it was offered last August. Well, apparently, you can pick up Stray Gods: Orpheus Edition (last June’s DLC) for GOG. No one thought to mention that during gay month or this month?
No, that wasn’t included in the Prime Day lead-up extras announced in the middle of June. To which this is going to be fun. So on Tuesday (July 1st), two offerings came from Santa Claus, whose name is Jeff. We’ll start with the most Christmasy thing: Boxes: Lost Fragments available through the Epic Games Store. We’ve spoken about Big Loop Studios’ point-and-click games before, especially with the Doors game. Well, along the same idea, Boxes: Lost Fragments is the same idea but with boxes to open instead of doors. If you’re a fan of these simple puzzle games, then sure, it is certainly a thing, but not a fantastic offering.
Also available now through the Epic Games Store is Paquerette Down the Bunburrows. Released in 2023, this is an overwhelmingly positively reviewed pixel art adventure puzzle game that’s difficult to talk about. Not that it is bad, you are basically chasing rabbits around maps trying to corner them and catch them – an Elmer Fudd simulator, if you will? Fantastic, great simple idea for a small puzzle game, but if you are one of those criminally insane 100% completion people, you might be chewing your nails down to the armpit.
This is where I’m left at a bit of a loss for what to say. Both previous games are available now, but next Thursday, there is nothing announced to be available, because I guess Jeffrey needs to save money after his cheap, tacky wedding somehow. Might want to check in on Prime Gaming on Tuesday, the 8th of July, to see if there is anything special announced, but don’t hold your breath for anything spectacular like Clair Obscur or Baldur’s Gate 3.
Well, with the upcoming release of ENDLESS Legend 2, I should have expected to see some of AMPLITUDE Studios’ other games, such as ENDLESS Space 2 Definitive Edition. Available through the Amazon Games App from the 17th of July, this 2017 title certainly has a fan base of the sci-fi 4X brand. However, as I’ve said a few times it seems now the Star Trek: Armada 3 mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, though real-time over turn-based game, is the best 4X space game and I’ll have no arguments. Those who want Civilization in Space with an ENDLESS twist will, however, highly enjoy ENDLESS Space 2.
Hold on, I’m just going to go stare into the void and scream after picking up Besiege during the Steam Summer Sale. Available through the Amazon Games App from the 17th, the listing I have here is that it is Besiege: The Splintered Sea DLC, but I don’t remember off the top of my head us previously getting Besiege on its own through the Amazon Games App. If somehow you don’t know, Besiege is one of those “Build a thing in this area and destroy that thing over there” games, but with a sort of mechanical-wood medieval twist. The DLC offers water-based explosions as well.
Onto the 24th of July, it is something that Alexx reviewed a short while ago, Venba. Available through GOG, Venba is a narrative cooking game about a South Indian immigrant mother connecting with her son through food. As the son of a trained chef who worked in professional kitchens for a while, I love the idea, and I do love food, but this is one for a small group of people who enjoy wholesome narrative games.
You know what I love? Finding a gun with a bullet in it so I don’t have to cover hidden object games being treated as a fantastic, great new endeavor into the world of gaming. When will we finally evolve the hidden object game into something 3D? Say, you get something like Croft Manor to explore, and you need to go find certain items through exploring and unlocking hidden pathways throughout the house? I know, my genius has no bounds! Nonetheless, the Legacy Games offering for July 24th is I Love Finding Wild Friends Collector’s Edition, which is nothing like what I’ve just explained.
The final game for the month on the 31st of July is available through GOG: Heroes of Loot. A game so far off of everyone’s radar that it has had less than 100 reviews in the ten years that it has been on Steam. A twin-stick shooter (I’m out) crossed with dungeon-crawling, with a very simple and uninteresting art style to go along with it. Orangepixel has several titles with similar art, including 2024’s Heroes of Loot: Gauntlet Of Power, which aside from being a budget Binding of Isaac without all the poo references, is far more interesting.
Again, you might want to check in on Prime Gaming around the 8th-9th of July to see if anything special shows up that hasn’t been announced and we don’t know about yet.
