Wandering Sword, the Chinese martial arts RPG from developer The Swordman Studio (no, “Swordman” isn’t a typo) and publisher Spiral Up Games has just received its first major piece of downloadable content. This DLC takes the form of a story expansion entitled Secrets of the Eastern Sea. In the base version of Wandering Sword, you “play a young swordsman caught up in a feud [who] nearly dies. Escaping the event puts you on the path of pursuing the highest form of martial arts and exploring the pugilistic world to become the great hero you are [] destined to be.

The press release about Secrets of the Eastern Sea contains a quote from Aldric Chang, the CEO of Spiral Up Games. Mr. Chang said the following: “This DLC continues the Wandering Sword experience with a more personal, focused adventure. It offers new environments, characters, and mechanics that enrich the base game while letting players explore a more peaceful and reflective side of the martial world.” Also according to the press release, you’ll be able to “travel to a mysterious island” and “continue your journey with new quests, locations, and characters.” While there, you’ll be able to “build your own island retreat.”

Players will have the ability to “create and manage a peaceful base where you can gather resources and trade with visitors.” Within the expanded story of Secrets of the Eastern Sea, you’ll learn the Qingyun Fan martial arts technique, which the press release describes as a “graceful and powerful fighting style tied to a new story character.” Once you’ve learned the new Qingyun Fan Technique, you can then repeatedly measure your mastery of that new fighting style once you’re given the ability to “set up your own arena and test your team in tactical combat challenges for new rewards.”

Secrets of the Eastern Sea also includes new outfits for your story characters and two new mounts for them to ride, namely the White Seal and the Gray Seal. The base edition of Wandering Sword costs $24.99 on Steam, and Secrets of the Eastern Sea is also out now on Steam for an additional $6.99. However, the DLC has a 15% discount for its first week on sale as of the time of writing. If you’re interested, Steam offers bundles that may get you a slight discount on both Wandering Sword and its new DLC, with or without the soundtrack included.

He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several notable RPGs and turn-based strategy titles. When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
