Every day is Pride Month at Phenixx Gaming, whether it is June or September. However, I try to sprinkle in some Pride Month content during the month of June. Turns out that RuPaul has made it easy for me this week, launching a game based on Drag Race.

You can now download RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen on iOS and Android devices via the App Store and Google Play. This Match-3 game based on the iconic and Emmy Award-winning franchise was crafted by East Side Games in partnership with World of Wonder and “blends satisfying puzzle gameplay, signature drag flair, and runway-ready fashion moments in a way no mobile game has before.”

Here is what the press release says about the launch event for the game: “At launch, players can dive into an exclusive in-game season starring drag superstar Trixie Mattel, unlocking iconic looks and leveling up through themed fashion challenges. To celebrate, Trixie is also spotlighting the game in her latest Get Ready With Me video—blending drag, glam, and gameplay in true Trixie style.

Designed for both fans of the franchise and mobile game lovers alike, RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen offers a fresh spin on match-3 mechanics:

  • Build Your Dream Drag Wardrobe with wigs, makeup, outfits, and accessories
  • Upgrade Your Looks over time by collecting and evolving fashion pieces
  • Complete Daily Challenges and Win Gag-worthy Rewards
  • Play Through Queen-Themed Seasons, each inspired by RuPaul and the most iconic personalities from RuPaul’s Drag Race”

In honor of Pride Month, RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen is launching a partnership with PFLAG National, the United States’ “largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.” Installing via this special link provides $1 per install (up to $25,000) for PFLAG National. With the game being free to install and play, it’s a simple gambit to add to the charitable effort.

While this initiative starts specifically for Pride, more collaborations between the game and PFLAG National will be announced soon. World of Wonder also commented on the launch, stating:

“At World of Wonder, we’re thrilled to expand the RuPaul’s Drag Race mobile game universe with Match Queen. This game captures the vibrant spirit of drag, by letting fans match, collect, and slay their way through fierce fashion challenges. We can’t wait for players to unleash their inner drag royalty and werk their way to the top!

Chief Product Officer of East Side Games, Jim Wagner, also added to the conversation, commenting: “At ESGG, we’re very excited to partner with World of Wonder once again, to bring RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen to life. This game is a celebration of creativity and drag culture, and we can’t wait for fans to join the fun!

Rounding out the conversation about the launch is Brian K Bond, CEO of PFLAG National, who stated: “We are grateful to East Side Games Group and RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen for their Philanthropic Partnership.

At a time when so many companies and brands are moving back as partners to LGBTQ+ organizations, they have come in with new support of our mission to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. We are excited to partner with them, not just for Pride, but in an ongoing effort—we look forward to our work together!

I am normally not a fan of mobile gaming. I don’t really find it accessible for a variety of reasons. I am also not a fan of the monetization methods that a lot of mobile gaming developers use. However, games like RuPaul’s Drag Race Match Queen are setting themselves up to make a positive impact, and I can’t very well argue with that now, can I? Here is hoping that the collaboration between them and PFLAG National goes well.
