Every year I sit down to write these things, and there are always the same few questions. Will the show be good this year? Will Geoff finally get his wish to make out with Kojima? Will Sam Lake show up and give me Control 2? That last one is probably a no, but the rest are all possible. Let’s see what happened at the Summer Game Fest main showcase.
The first reveal was for Mortal Shell II, the follow-up to a Souls-like that was moderately received. Personally, all I see here is 50 shades of brown, grey, and bland visuals mixed with overly-tuned combat. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not too excited about this one. Mortal Shell II will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox consoles next year.
Next up was an advertisement for Fortnite’s next major event, the “Galactic Battle V: Death Star Sabotage” event. By the time this article is published, the event will have already taken place, but if you enjoyed busting up a Death Star, let us know in the comments.
Then we smoothly transitioned into Geoff trying to get Hideo Kojima to make out with him. He says that this is Kojima’s first Summer Game Fest appearance in person, but that can’t be right…can it? Kojima shows up (or is mentioned at least) in all of Geoff’s “Senpai notice me” showcases, so clearly…well, either way, Kojima came to show off a little.
The segment for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was interesting. I’m not sure from a plot standpoint what significance it has, but it looks good at least. There is a live gameplay demo that you can watch now (most likely), which came out on Sunday, to get more details. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26th, 2025, for PlayStation 5.
A new World Premiere was next, specifically a trailer for Chronicles: Medieval, a medieval war strategy title coming to Early Access in 2026. The interesting thing about this is that it seems to be from a commander’s perspective on the battlefield, rather than an overworld, top-down vibe.
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds sped toward us next. The new trailer revealed that Hatsune Miku has joined the roster, along with Like A Dragon‘s Ichiban Kasuga, Joker from Persona 5, and characters from across the Sonic Universe. Crossworlds will be released on September 25th, 2025. The segment also announced online, cross-platform matchmaking and new elements to the series, such as portals mid-race. They even announced a Minecraft collaboration coming soon.
The next segment spoke my language, getting back into Action-RPG territory from Bandai Namco. Code Vein II brings the gothic-fantasy Souls-like experience, but seems to offer a more polished and cohesive experience this time. Code Vein II will be released sometime in 2026 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. I’m optimistic about this one, so we’ll see as the release gets closer.
Section 9 Interactive and Epic Games Publishing slid in next with a trailer for End of Abyss. It appears to be a moody, survival horror-inspired third-person shooter coming to PC and consoles in 2026.
Next, we get into something Keiran and I both love: cute animal detectives. Mouse P.I for Hire is a first-person Cartoon shooter set in a monochromatic world much like the early age of cartoons. You play as Jack Pepper, a mouse private investigator who is shooting his way through the corrupt cartoon streets. I’m very excited for this one to come to PC and consoles later this year.
Then we went back to Westeros with a new real-time strategy game called Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. It seems to be an RTS game where you can pit the various factions in Westeros (including the Night King and his White Walkers) against one another. Based on the Steam page (with only 4 factions) it seems limited. We’ll see how it turns out when it comes out in 2026.
I didn’t think the phrase “FPS Action-Adventure RPG” would come up during this showcase, because… that feels like word salad? But here we are with Atomic Heart II. I find it hard to be excited about this one for various Russia-adjacent reasons. Regardless, you can wishlist it now for PC and Consoles. From a mechanical perspective, it looks great, but from an Ideological one…the less that is said, the better.
Mundfish has also created an MMO RPG Shooter in the Atomic Heart universe, as if we didn’t have enough MMO games. The Cube is a multiplayer shooter that will be released at some point in the future. I might be more impressed if the previously mentioned Ideological issues weren’t in the way. Oh, and the fact that they spent more time doing curvy rear shots and vagina shots of robots and various women.
Now, from things that irritate me, to things that excite me, we move on to Marvel Cosmic Invasion. As someone who loved the X-Men arcade game and other side-scrolling Marvel titles, this one really has me itching to get at it. Two new characters were revealed for the roster: She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon.
Capcom slid in next with a new trailer, showcasing Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This new Onimusha title will be released next year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. After seeing it in December at the Game Awards, I’m even more interested now.
I didn’t think “Cute Puppet Fighting” would be on the itinerary for today, but here we are. The next announcement was for Felt That Boxing, which is what you’d get if they made a “Rocky, but with Puppets” movie. I am not a boxing guy, but this looks amazingly funny, and I am excited for it. You can wishlist it now on Steam, but we don’t know much else yet.
Moving on, Killer Inn is a new murder mystery multiplayer game in which some players are killers, others are investigators. The killers lurk in plain sight and must kill their way to victory. A closed beta is coming soon, but we don’t know much else yet.
Arc Raiders was a game I forgot existed, because it was announced back in 2021. Regardless, a new trailer shows off a new release date, bringing this PvPvE situation to PC and consoles on October 30th.
The world of Arrakis waits in Dune: Awakening when it releases on June 10th, and this next section showcases a new trailer. I’ve seen more about this game in the past few years than I really needed to. Can we use this airtime for some lesser-known stuff? Sorry, I know some folks are excited, but the survival genre interests me about as much as corporations are interested in the LGBTQIA+ community in July or any month before or after June.
Next came a trailer for Chrono Odyssey, which seems to be another Souls-like, but with more multiplayer functionality than most Indie takes on the genre. There will be a play test from June 20th-22nd, so keep an eye out for that.
A new Wuthering Waves trailer popped up next, and I just can’t bring myself to be interested. Some folks like it, but with so many games in the same vibe out there now I just can’t bring myself to care. Version 2.4 releases on June 12th.
Now we dig into the Indie Metroidvania side of things, with a new world premiere for Mio: Memories in Orbit. Hollow Knight “but with robots” seems to be coming soon, but you can play a demo now. It will be released (eventually) across PC and all major platforms.
Drifting into Co-op territory, we have Out of Words, a hand-crafted Claymation co-op platformer. There is no release date or window, but what we were shown is impressive for a hand-crafted game. It will be coming (sometime in 2026) for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Mafia: The Old Country took the stage next with a new trailer. The trailer looks good, and I am pretty curious to play this one when it comes out on August 8th.
Lego Voyagers is next, a 2-player Co-op adventure that will have a Friends pass in the same vein as Split Fiction. We don’t have a launch date, but we know it will be coming to PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles.
Nickelodeon stopped by for Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny, an action game bringing a ton of Nickelodeon characters together. We don’t have a lot of info yet, but it will be coming to PC and consoles at some point.
Lies of P: Overture was next, shadow-dropping on all major platforms to everyone’s surprise. This prequel DLC looks cool, and it might convince me to give Lies of P another shot when I’m not busy with a thousand other things.
Serenity Forge surprised everyone with a new horror experience called Fractured Blooms. Billed as “Doki Doki Literature Club meets Silent Hill,” it seems like an interesting mix of story, life sim (ish) content, and survival horror. You can wishlist it now, but we don’t know much else yet.
NCSoft dropped some information on Blade & Soul Neo, as well as revealing Blade & Soul: Heroes. Blade & Soul Neo was just released on Steam, so you can check it out now, along with the new Warlock class. Blade & Soul: Heroes seems to be a mobile party-based RPG coming soon. You can pre-register for Blade & Soul: Heroes now.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin adapts the popular anime in a new game. You can pre-register for it now as well as wishlist it on PlayStation 5 and Steam. This led to a commercial for the Unreal Engine showcase that was discussed last week.
After the commercial break, Jurassic World Evolution 3 showcased a new trailer. The new entry in the series offers more customization and freedom than ever before. Jurassic World Evolution 3 will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on the 21st of October.
Yacht Club Games was next, showcasing Mina the Hollower, their next IP. Mina the Hollower will be released on October 31st and seems to blend Zelda-esque gameplay with some modern ideas. I’m very excited to play Yacht Club Games’ next classic in the making.
Next was a new trailer that came at the price of a low blow Silksong joke. Deadpool has come to the Meta Quest VR system! Deadpool VR is coming later this year, and that trailer alone makes me wish more VR systems were accessible for me. That’s a discussion for another day, though.
We revisit Dying Light: The Beast next. The Summer Game Fest trailer revealed a release date of August 22nd. The Beast will be unleashed on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, and it looks like a really great time.
The next world premiere was for Mixtape, a coming-of-age experience from Annapurna Interactive and developer Beethoven and Dinosaur. Experience one last night of teenage madness before the end of an era. It looks pretty great, and the soundtrack is pretty solid too, though all we have is a “coming soon” window, no actual release date.
Another trailer followed, showing off Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree. This looks to be a beat-em-up Rogue-like that has you slowly fighting to take on a demon-esque influence that seeks to destroy the world, one run at a time. It will be released on PC and Consoles on September 19th, 2025.
An Indonesian developer took the spotlight next, with an action beat-em-up done by a solo developer. Acts of Blood is a brutal beat-em-up that seems to be a revenge story. I would say it is like Shenmue if Yu Suzuki hadn’t lost the plot, but this is more of a grounded, gritty, visceral sort of fighter. Acts of Blood is coming to PC next summer.
The next trailer was for a new game from the developers of Shredder’s Revenge and Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers are back in Scott Pilgrim EX, coming to PC and consoles next year. It looks cool, and Scott Pilgrim fans are sure to love it.
Next came a Resident Evil segment, detailing a Capcom sale that cuts prices on Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil 4, and more. This led to a break involving SCUM, and The First Descendant.
Then we got a new trailer for MindsEye, which is releasing on June 10th. It looks good, but I can’t help but feel like we’re getting close to the next Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco. When they try so hard to make it look amazing, and amp it up as the “GTA Killer…” I’m just not sold. The Summer Game Fest also advertised a Hitman collaboration with MindsEye for this summer, so that should be interesting.
This moved straight into a new segment for 007 First Light. I’ve been following the details we’ve been getting, and there is a collaboration with Hitman, which is pretty cool. Mads Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre is now a target coming to Hitman, and as a fan of Casino Royale, this might actually get me to pick up the Hitman games again. Le Chiffre is available to play now, until July 6th. If you play it, you’ll get a unique reward for 007 First Light when it launches next year.
A new Lego party game is coming! Lego Party is giving Mario a run for his money. In this Lego-themed party game, you’ll be playing from a pool of 60 minigames and trying to get the most Golden bricks by the end of the round. Lego Party is coming later this year on all major platforms.
Back to the Multiplayer stuff we go with Wildgate, a new Team Shooter. This week starts its open beta as part of Steam Next Fest, and it is coming out on July 24th. Though the next reveal was more exciting.
Drinkbox Studios’ (the dev behind Guacamelee and Nobody Saves the World) next game is Blighted, a fully 3D game playable in single player or co-op. Blighted looks gorgeous (if a little grotesque), and though we don’t have a release date yet, it does say “coming soon.” You can wishlist it now on Steam.
The next game showcased was Ill, described as a “first-person survival action horror game”. It looks disgustingly grotesque, but I laughed out loud at the end of the trailer. I’m going to Hell, and I am well aware.
Mecha Break showed up next, and this highly anticipated shooter now has a release date! Mecha Break will be coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S on July 1st, 2025. The wait is almost over, and that trailer will definitely appeal to mech fans.
Infinitesimals literally makes you a small person in a big world. This world premiere caught my eye because it is the concept of the movie Antz, except DreamWorks didn’t get the memo. Granted, there are machines too, but still. Infinitesimals will come to PC and consoles in 2026.
Celebrating a 30th anniversary, the next segment delivered a message from Takeuchi-san, the mastermind of the Resident Evil franchise. We’ll have to wait “just a blink of an eye longer” for the next game in the franchise, but it is coming.
Next came a goofy Street Fighter segment featuring Former AEW World Champion and IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. You can thank our managing editor (and wrestling enthusiast) Keiran for that bit of info. Street Fighter 6: Years 1-2 Edition is now available. Capcom Cup 12 in Japan is also coming in March 2026.
The next announcement was for a stylish multiplayer shooter called Last Flag. It isn’t something I would personally play, but I could see YouTubers having fun with it. Last Flag is still largely a mystery, but you can wishlist it now.
Next, to my excitement, we get another trailer for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Though I am terrible at Souls-like games, this one has caught my attention since it was announced. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will be released on July 24th, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Then we moved into a segment for Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver. You can wishlist this action game now, though we don’t know much else beyond that it is coming to PC. Wu-Tang Clan fans have a lot to look forward to, though.
After a bit of a commercial break, we drift to our next segment, covering another world premiere. Into the Unwell is an action platformer with a classic cartoon style that I immediately want in my hands. Give it to me now please, I need it!
Splitgate 2 popped up next, and I wanna give the presenter some props for a moment. Calling out the “I don’t want to play the same Call of Duty every year” comment here. It is comments like that, and games like Splitgate 2 (even though I didn’t realize it was so anticipated) that make a statement. It might not stop people from buying Call of Duty 72: Electric Boogaloo (the diehard fans), but it at least points out how ridiculous it is.
Splitgate: Battle Royale is now available, and I’ll admit, while I think the world could do with less Battle Royale crap… this idea isn’t so bad. Sadly, give it about six months and the portal concept will be in Fortnite, and Epic will claim it was it’s idea.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio returned with a new trailer as well. This is a glimpse of something we saw at The Game Awards, a new game originally called Project Century, which is now called Stranger Than Heaven. It seems to have some of the DNA of Judgment, along with the Like a Dragon franchise. Unlike the first trailer, this one is set in 1943, and you seem to be playing a Private Detective. I’m pretty interested in this one.
The final announcement was for Resident Evil 9: Requiem. This new Resident Evil game seems to be set closer to the present day, and we might be re-visiting Raccoon City. Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be released on February 27th, 2026, for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
This year’s Summer Game Fest opening showcase was pretty solid. There were a few big hitters, but a variety of good Indie gems too. Let’s hope we see more of some of these at Gamescom in August. Let us know what your favorite announcements were in the comments. We’ll have more coverage all this week for the other showcases.
