New Characters Coming to Double Dragon Gaiden

I was a big fan of the newest entry in the Double Dragon franchise when I reviewed it about a year or two ago. Since then, the game has continued to roll out new content, which only further enhances my recommendation for the title. This week, developer Secret Base has unveiled yet another free DLC update for the beat ’em up, which adds two new playable characters.

First to join the roster is Jeff. Once a childhood rival to the Lee brothers, Jeff blends the rough, underhanded tactics of street fighting with the precision of the Sosetsukan martial art style. The next character is Abore, a grappler type fighter who utilizes his background as a soldier to dish out pain to anyone who gets in his way. These new fighters will be available immediately as the new update is live right now.

To celebrate the release of this update, Steam is offering the base game on sale for 60% off, bringing the price down to 9.99. This is a fantastic deal, especially when factoring in that the new update brings the full roster of characters up to 18. Double Dragon Gaiden not only offers a polished campaign but also exceptional replay value with the addition of the Survival Mode and Versus Mode, which were released in the last update, not to mention full online co-op support. Though I would like to see some more diverse levels and enemies to make my way through, I imagine the next slate of content will include some.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is available now on PC through Steam, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The game boasts polished, fluid tag-based combat and follows the adventure of the Lee brothers on their quest to fight against four street gangs that rule the post-apocalyptic future. Each run offers the chance for randomized items and bonuses to power up your roster and is a must-play for fans of the arcade fighter genre.
