I don’t know what it is about anthropomorphic characters and an early to mid-20th-century Americana style, but it’s a style that pulls me in instantly. That was the case with Blacksad, and in the case of SUPER AC’s PROHIBEAST, I’m certainly intrigued by its style. Seemingly revealed at least earlier this year, the “real-time stealth-tactics” game seems to be aiming for that niche that Mimimi Games sat in for a while, with a 2025 release window.

Set during the Great Depression era of American history, this alt-city of Chicago is similarly down on its luck during the prohibition era. This is what the press release I was sent yesterday has to say about PROHIBEAST: “Set in the anthropomorphic world of PROHIBEAST, players are transported to 1930s Chicago, a city riddled with corruption and illegal meat trafficking following a nationwide consumption ban. Players step into the shoes of Eliot Ness and his team of Untouchables, determined to dismantle Al Capone’s criminal empire by operating from the shadows.”

What I find strange about the press release is that it is all about the first reveal trailer, which I can find on YouTube. The trailer was released back at the end of March. Yes, quite an odd one, I’ll give you that. PROHIBEAST will also be part of the Games Made in France 2025 festival initiative, which, as far as I’ve understood, is an independent community initiative to highlight upcoming French indie games. An initiative that’s much smarter than most because it doesn’t take place during a stupid time when everything else is holding everyone’s attention.

The Games Made in France 2025 festival, which is basically just a live stream highlighting the titles included, will take place between May 15th and 18th on Twitch. Last year’s event included Flint – Treasure of Oblivion, Crown Gambit, Empire of Ants, Symphonia, Toads of the Bayou, and oddly enough, Warhammer Space Marine II. The trailer is supposedly out in conjunction with this announcement, so it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on.

That said, both on other social media platforms and YouTube, where the trailer is available, there are notes of an October release (the YouTube description) for PROHIBEAST. The press release simply states, “Release on PC by the end of 2025.” You can wishlist PROHIBEAST on Steam right now, with the trailer noting a release on the Epic Games Store too, though there is no page for that at the time of writing. Certainly a strange one to get a press release about, but one I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on.
