I’ve had my eye on Detective Dotson since it was announced last year. After an announcement that just oozed fun, I’ve been excited to see how Masala Games’ detective adventure turned out. Now, the wait is over.
Detective Dotson is available now on PC, with console versions planned for later this year. Detective Dotson is also Steam Deck compatible and will have a Microsoft Store version soon if you don’t want to buy it on Steam. Here is what the press release says about Detective Dotson’s launch:
“Indie game developer Masala Games has released its highly-anticipated debut title, Detective Dotson[,] on PC. Detective Dotson is a mystery adventure game set in a stylised rendition of modern-day India that puts players in the role of Dotson, a reluctant detective who dreams of becoming a Bollywood Star.
Detective Dotson is a part of the Xbox Developer Acceleration Program. The game is available on Steam and will be available on the Microsoft store shortly. Detective Dotson is compatible with the Steam Deck as well.
Steam-related features like achievements will be added by May 1. Post-launch, Detective Dotson will receive additional single-player content in the form of new chapters that continue right after the game’s conclusion. New mini-games, fresh environments, and a co-op mode (which would be available for PC the same time it launches on consoles later this year) would be added as well. All of these will be included in the base game at no extra cost.”
Shalin Shodhan, Founder and CEO of Masala Games, commented on the release of Detective Dotson, stating: “After three years in development, we’re finally ready to bring Detective Dotson into the world. India is missing from gaming culture and we are on a mission to fix that with projects like Detective Dotson. It’s a celebration of our beautiful, funny and ever adventurous homeland — India.”
They also commented on the pricing, adding: “We want to be sensitive to how customers view pricing to ensure value. This made us realise that $15 would be a fair price at launch. And while we have more content slated post-release, we may consider a price hike at that time. For now though, Detective Dotson will be $15. As always[,] we welcome your feedback and support.”
I’m excited to see how Detective Dotson has turned out after its 3-year development time. The trailers look fun, and I think we all could benefit from experiencing gaming stories that are outside of what we in the West find familiar.
