A month or so ago, we released coverage of the new, upcoming Metroidvania from No Sequels Cooperative. In it, I mentioned that I was curious about this upcoming release, and that this new studio had my attention. Now, it seems that the team behind Embroideryvania has released an official gameplay trailer.

That’s right, folks! You can now get a look at Embroideryvania’s gameplay, thanks to an all-new trailer. For reference, Embroideryvania will be an entirely Split-screen Co-op experience. As mentioned in my previous piece, the Steam page also mentions single-player, though it isn’t exactly obvious how that will work.

Here is what the press release says about Embroideryvania: “The trailer offers a detailed look at the game’s cozy, peaceful, no-combat mechanics, including seed-based puzzles, unique shellpack collection, and learning plant identification in this whimsical, hand-stitched world.

The Steam page also explains further: “Explore a one-of-a-kind embroidered metroidvania world in split-screen, local couch co-op, [or] with a companion. This gem is perfect for players who’d like to introduce someone who doesn’t play video games to the hobby. You play as a snail visiting a plant park, identifying plants you’ve never seen before.

Customize your shell by finding unique designs in the world. Uncover mysteries and get safely lost in this peaceful world, as there are no enemies or combat to worry about. Only you, your companion, and the surrounding environment.

Game Director of Embroideryvania, Fox Walker, commented on the trailer, stating: “These uniquely embroidered biomes are meant for you – the snail – to be lost in. Our goal is to be someone’s first game. Ideally, the first of many!

I’m still curious as to the experience of Embroideryvania. A pacifist Metroidvania is always tricky to pull off, but with a co-op experience, it might be even trickier. With the popularity of games like It Takes Two and Split Fiction, though, this is the perfect time for it.
