This past month alone, Mexico and India had elections, next month is a snap election from Rishi Sunak in the UK, and it is Joe – Don 2: Who breaks a hip in the first round? If only elections between 70-year-olds were dealt with the same way we deal with YouTuber spats – boxing matches to the death. Sorry, am I making politics far too entertaining? It’s been almost four years since I last touched Democracy 4 here on the site, and I think it might be time to dust off the political simulator for no good reason. That’s sarcasm, you can clap now.
Released yesterday, Democracy 4: Console Edition brings the political game to Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. The press release notes: “Democracy 4: Console Edition is a political simulation game where you lead one of several countries. In your position, you will be able to choose policies, laws, and take other actions [that] will positively impact some areas of your country, while harming others. The ultimate goal is to win the next election through your actions.”
Cutting through the waffle about Steam reviews and original PC release, the press release goes on to say, “Now, with Democracy 4: Console Edition, console players will be able to lead the country of their choice in this landmark series for the first time ever, with an experience that’s been built specifically for controller play.“
Creator of the Democracy Series, Cliff Harris, said, “As the developer behind Democracy 4, I’m genuinely thrilled about its upcoming release on consoles through the work of Auroch Digital. It’s been a long journey focusing on the game’s development for PC, and seeing it expand to a wider audience on consoles feels incredibly rewarding. The prospect of reaching more players and allowing them to experience the intricacies of political simulation on different platforms is both exciting and gratifying.“
Featuring ten countries to take your political career to, you might become the president of the United States, South Korea, and Italy, or the Prime Minister of the UK, Japan, Spain, Canada, and Australia, or even the German Chancellor. As the head of state, you’ll enact, change, and possibly abolish laws, hoping to get elected next time. Just remember, duck when you hear the bullets coming.
You can pick up Democracy 4: Console Edition on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One right now. There is no word on whether or when there will be PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports, though it does seem odd to only release on last-gen consoles currently.
