With the PC port of Red Dead Redemption 2 being announced late last week, Rockstar was a little hesitant to give too many details; including the performance requirements of this highly detailed behemoth. Given it is already a stunning game in parts on consoles, and given Rockstar’s history of squeezing the very most out of said consoles. A PC port should look amazing.
Now Rockstar are being a little more loose-lipped when it comes to the PC port and their requirements and expectations of the upgrade. They have stated the port will allow for “deeper immersion,” with a higher quality of global illumination and ambient occlusion, improved reflections, greater quality of shadows at high resolutions, tesselated tree textures, improved vegetation, greater quality of fur textures, and high-quality snow trails for those opening three hours of a slog. It all sounds very impressive, though we’ve yet to see any actual (third party) footage of the game.
Along with the standard upgrades of textures and graphical effects, what else is coming along? The PC port will allow for HDR support, multi-monitor configurations, widescreen setups, and of course, higher frame rates and resolutions. What’s interesting about the latter of those is the phrase, “4K and Beyond.” So what’s required to run this monolith?

Yes, one of the most shocking points there would be the space required. 150 gigabytes of free space is required to run the game; I don’t think I have that on my work external hard drive. What will be taking up most of this extra space over the console editions (about 116GB with latest patches) will be the higher textures; however, the PC port is bringing more than just textures.
There will be: three new bounty hunter missions, two gang hideouts, two treasure maps, one story mission, four new story mode weapons (three previously only available online), several new horses (two only previously online), and five new permanent trinket upgrades. All, one would assume, coming with several new models and textures of their own. For more detail on the pre-purchase bonuses, check out the Rockstar Blog post.
